Finding the Real God
Roya had read the entire Koran twice and each time she said it became more and more frustrating. “I was never able to find the answers I was looking for. I couldn’t find the kind and loving God I imagined. I found too many inconsistencies between the words and actions. God seemed distant, cold, and disinterested. I couldn’t believe this was the real God.”
I asked Roya if she had ever read the Bible. She whispered, “No, I have never even seen one. It would be too dangerous here.” Roya took my Bible home with her for the next several nights. Each morning she returned to the hotel with notes and questions. Finally, Roya said, “I cannot believe the words I am reading about Jesus. He is so kind. He is full of forgiveness. He is gentle and humble. But I am more confused. The Bible is so different form everything I’ve been taught. What must I do now?”
I told Roya that she was in a difficult position. “You have to change what you believe about Jesus. Either He is a liar, or He really is who He says He is: the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the entire world.”
The following morning Roya pulled me aside and asked, “If we believe in Jesus, does God really adopt us as His children?” I smiled and said, “Yes.” She excitedly exclaimed, “Then that makes us more than just friends, now we are sisters!” Roya came to a decision: Jesus really is who He says He is. Now she is boldly following Him and sharing about His love with everyone she meets.
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'” -John 1:29, NIV
Pray for Roya’s continued growth in Christ—that her faith will deepen and she will live out His love.
