Children in Afghanistan grow up fast. By age two, they are weaned and pushed out the door to play on the street, looked after by their older siblings, who may be several years older and responsible, or may just be one year older. Girls as young as six are put to work inside the house with chores, cooking and cleaning, while young boys are out working, helping their father in their trade. School is of little importance if money can be made. Girls as young as 14 are married off to the family that will pay the highest bride price, sometimes being the second or third wife. They are then expected to have children of their own within the first year of marriage.
Pray for these children. Pray they can know the innocence of simply being a child.
Pray protection for them as the little ones are hardly looked after well, and many get hurt playing on the streets.
Pray for these young child brides as they raise children of their own.
“Let the little children come to Me and don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Luke 18:16
